When: 7:00PM to about 9:00PM Where: Sequoia Charter School in Mesa Topic: ASUS EeePC with several different distros Presenter: Larry Abstract: Larry will show his EeePC with Ubuntu 9.04 and cover tweaks for the EeePC. He will also boot a live USB drive with Ubuntu 9.04 Netbook Remix to show features of NBR and switching back to a standard desktop. Finally, Larry will boot into the Moblin Beta and show some of its uniqueness. Bio: Larry is a retired C & C++ Programmer and Software Development Manager. More importantly he is a computer enthusiast since the build-your-own days. His background includes Billing Systems, Multi-User Database, SCUBA Diver Record Systems, Clothing Inventory and Retail Point of Sale support all on early PC Style machines using CP/M, MP/M and early Windows. Later he worked on Telephone Operator Support Systems using PCs and a 24x7 mission critical distributed transaction systems under HP Unix. Larry also served on the XJ311 C++ International Standards Committee. These days he is President of a local computer club and likes to help his neighbors. Topic: The Mozilla Suite: Songbird and Chatzilla Presenter: Matthew A Coulliette Abstract: Matthew will be doing a series of presentations on different Mozilla desktop applications. This month he will be covering Songbird and Chatzilla, a music player and IRC client respectively. Bio: Matthew used to be an electrician, then became AutoCAD certified and drew residential electrical plans. Later, he got a job as a Drafter working on plans/circuits for SRP (Salt River Project) using MicroStation. Finally, was made an associate electrical designer for SRP. He has just started working on an Electrical Engineering Degree. Matthew had used Linux for 7 years now. He is currently using the Ubuntu family of distro's. He is the new host/manager of the latest BlenderCAD initiative. He has always believed, (just the last 7 years), that BlenderCAD is his best hope for an open source full featured CAD program. He is currently working on setting up a BlenderCAD chat room, online meetings, mailing list, and our own web page. |
